Shorts

Thanks to funding through Arts Council England’s Emergency Response Fund and from UH Arts and Dacorum Borough Council we created a series of short pieces of theatre on film from the summer of 2020 onwards.

The films are all written by Anna Reynolds and are inspired by the world of her play ‘Nothing on Earth’ which as due to tour this Autumn before the COVID crisis hit. The films are being produced under the creative leadership of Artistic Director Rosamunde Hutt working with partners including: Trestle, Hertford Theatre, Dacorum Borough Council, Pump House Watford, South Mill Arts, Bishop’s Stortford and Hertfordshire Year of Culture 2020.

The first film was launched on Friday 3rd July 2020 as part of the University of Hertfordshire’s online Festival of Ideas . You can watch it by going to the Learning to Fly page of our website and the second film can be viewed here.

The festival has now finished but we were honoured to be included in this lovely video of some of the highlights:

The second film ‘How To Build A Plane’ was launched in partnership with Hertford Theatre and was shown on their big screen before a socially distanced cinema screening. Find out more and watch the film here.

The third film ‘How To Land’ was launched in partnership with Trestle Theatre and premiered on their website following a take-over of their social media. Trestle also hosted a live Q and A with the creative team on Zoom which was recorded. Watch the film, Q and A and find out more about How To Land here.

The fourth film ‘How To Space’ was streamed as part of the Watford Fringe Festival and the fifth film ‘How To Take Off’ will premiere on the UH Arts website in November (more details to follow shortly).

The fifth film ‘How To Take Off’ was premiered by the University of Hertfordshire Arts website on 4th November 2020 and can now also be found here on our website.

The sixth and final film ‘How To Live or, The Trouble With Women’ interweaves the real-life stories of people from the Dacorum area in Hertfordshire.

The trailer also played on the big screen in Hemel Hempstead town centre – thank you to Dacorum Borough Council for making this happen.
