Pursued by a Bear is seeking new Directors/Trustees

Based at Trestle in St Albans, Pursued by a Bear is a twenty-one year old charitable company producing theatre on stage and on film. Our work is global in scope: recent productions have been set in Russia, India and between the UK and the USA through pioneering use of remote-performance technology. At the same time we are inspired by our locality. We are adept at community engagement and are building expertise in working with the elderly and those resident in assisted housing schemes. We don’t have a venue of our own but work with those who do, such as our hosts at Trestle. We embrace touring and reaching our audiences through both personal and digital engagement.

During lockdown we have remained busy, commissioning a new series of short films written by St Albans-based writer, Anna Reynolds. These have been produced under Covid-19 restrictions and released with our six Hertfordshire partners. Our shorts series replaces a long-planned tour of Nothing On Earth, a development of the hugely successful Hertfordshire’s Hidden Heroines project, which awaits the reopening of theatres both in the county and across the UK.

In the future we want to increase our productivity and our impact, both locally and nationally.

Join the Team

PBAB is led by Artistic Director, Rosamunde Hutt, who brings to the company decades of experience in gathering and guiding exceptional theatre talent.

The company’s activities are overseen by a Board of Directors and Trustees. We would like to strengthen our Board and welcome interest from anyone over the age of 16 who has:

Ideally, a strong connection with Hertfordshire.

Empathy with our mission and activities (direct experience of the performing or digital arts isn’t essential)

Business management and/or business development experience would be an asset, as would be some knowledge of fundraising.

People from UK ethnic minorities are unrepresented on our Board and we are keen to address this.

Directors and Trustees serve on a voluntary basis.
Reasonable expenses incurred can be reimbursed.

Attendance is expected at Board meetings (quarterly and currently via conference / video call) and company events.

Beyond this a Director and Trustee can self-define their level of engagement.

Please write to Thomas Kell (Chair of Trustees and Directors) for more information and to discuss this opportunity.
